Dr. Jack Douthwaite
BMBS, BSc, MRCGP
Meet Jack, Specialist Doctor
My name is Dr Jack Douthwaite.
My patients tend to just call me Dr Jack or Jack – I tend to be informal, as I like to truly understand my patients and feel this can only happen in an environment where the patient is relaxed and comfortable.
I am a medical doctor and hold full GMC registration. I am a qualified GP & secondary care higher speciality trainee in rehabilitation and musculoskeletal medicine. I am included on the English medical performers list.
My primary medical qualification is Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (BMBS) and I hold membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). I completed my speciality training in the Yorkshire region and passed my membership examinations at first attempt. I learnt from some of the best trainers in the region and two of these were highly experienced in women’s and sexual health.
Hormone Health + General Wellbeing Services
My role within the clinic will focus primarily on hormone health. I have a specialist interest in hormones and the intricate role they play within the human body. I keep up to date with all advancements in research within this area and prescribe according to the latest guidelines and evidence base available.
I am a member of the British & European Society of Sexual Medicine (BSSM/ESSM) and a member of the British Menopause Society (BMS). I am also undertaking further post graduate education in endocrinology and the medical management of menopause.
As part of this service I can offer:
- General health screening;
- Blood sample testing;
- Urine/stool sample testing;
- Private hormone-based prescriptions: these includes testosterone/oestrogen/
progesterone, as clinically indicated - Lifestyle advice;
- Onward referral to specialities/ imaging requests.
My approach
I do not have a one size fits all approach for my patients.
I tailor care individually to each persons needs. After our initial 45-minute consultation together, which will include a thorough medical history and clinical examination as appropriate, we will work together to formulate an effective and realistic management plan. This may include blood testing/other tests, a private prescription for medication or further consultations as needed. I can also refer to other specialists and write referrals for imaging like X-ray/CT/MRI if deemed appropriate.
After we have gathered all of the necessary information, we will work together to create an individualised management plan to work towards your health goals.
I will not recommend blood testing or further testing if not needed. I do this to minimise the impact on yourself both physically, mentally and financially.
Disclaimer
Please note, this is NOT a general practice service. I do not manage acute medical illness nor do I manage complex chronic health issues within this clinic, as this is not a service I can legally provide from this location. The service I provide is focussed around hormonal and general health only and I refuse the right to decline consultations if I feel I cannot offer you the care appropriate for your needs. I will of course, always direct you to the care I feel appropriate if clinically appropriate- this may be your own GP or if more urgent, an urgent primary or secondary care environment like urgent care or A+E.
My services are provided individually by me as a GMC registered GP.
I am not employed by Life and Lemons. I simply use their consulting rooms on an ad hoc basis to provide services. I hold full unlimited medical indemnity cover and work within the limitations of my CQC exemptions that I hold due to my current employment and professional status. I work within the limitations of registration and work to current national and international guidelines and follow best medical practices at all times. I only prescribe medications I am comfortable to prescribe and will not initiate specialist medications outside of my remit.
