Integrated healthcare

Acupuncture Sheffield

Acupuncture may be helpful in reducing the troubling symptoms of many conditions, and takes a holistic approach to healthcare, integrating the mind, body and emotions.

Research suggests that the modulating effects on pain (1) and metabolic disturbance (2) may be achieved through acupuncture’s ability to increase blood circulation and stimulate the release of neurotransmitters, such as endorphins and other natural opioids.

Acupuncture may also have a positive effect on brain chemistry through the regulation of the hypothalamus and pituitary glands which are responsible for the smooth running of hormonal activity in the body.

We are learning more about the benefits of acupuncture all the time (3), with many patients reporting enhanced relaxation and increased energy.

Acupuncture is based on the belief that your body has everything it needs to heal, given the right environment. We simply help facilitate positive, physiological shifts to help your body find balance, or homeostasis.

The Life + Lemons Way

Alternative approach to healthcare

When considering Acupuncture treatment at our clinic in Sheffield, your experience will be very different to being seen by a western medical practitioner. The aim is not to ‘treat you’, but for you to become a partner in your own health, as we take you on a journey towards a greater understanding of your body and improved wellbeing.

Whole systems, integrative healthcare

Whether you’re preparing your body for fertility or wanting to transition smoothly through the menopause, Life + Lemons practitioners aim to help you uncover what is happening at the root of the issue and provide you with a whole systems, integrative approach to each treatment plan to help you reconnect with the innate wisdom of your body.

Beyond the needles

In your initial treatment, Kimberley will thoroughly review your medical history and your current complaint. After gathering all the appropriate information they will then assess your individual needs and concerns to formulate a treatment plan.

Once Kimberley understands what you wish to achieve from your treatments, she may discuss alternative or conjunctive ways to stimulate these acupuncture points.

Other methods of stimulation may involve;

  • Moxibustion: the gentle warming of acupoints with a smouldering herb.
  • Cupping: the application of suction cups to areas of tight musculature.
  • Gua Sha: rubbing and stimulating the meridians with a smooth Jade implement.
  • Electro-Acupuncture: the stimulation of acupuncture needles with a very mild electrical current.

What can acupuncture be helpful for?

Acupuncture has been known to support symptoms associated with menstrual health including PCOS, endometriosis, migraines, menopause, acne, painful periods and more.

In addition to women’s health issues, there is evidence that acupuncture may be beneficial for the treatment of lower back pain, osteoarthritis, sciatica, migraines and tension headaches, depression and anxiety, symptoms of stress. It is no longer possible to say that the effectiveness of acupuncture can be attributed to the placebo effect or that it is useful only for musculoskeletal pain.

What you can expect from Acupuncture at Life + Lemons

Your initial treatment will last 60 minutes, whereby we will go through a thorough health history to establish a TCM diagnosis and the most effective treatment plan to help address your primary health goals. During this time, we may have time for an initial treatment, depending on the complexity of health history.

Acupuncture is a pain-free treatment that involves inserting very fine needles into specific body points, to initiate responses from the central nervous system, and to correct imbalances in the body’s flow of Qi (pronounced Chi, otherwise known as energy). Normal sensations felt during acupuncture treatment may include heaviness or tingling at the point of insertion, a sign of Qi activation.
