Personalised support for stress and tension
Stress can show up as jaw tension, headaches, unsettled digestion, restless nights or difficulty switching off. Understanding when symptoms happen helps us build treatment around your experience.
We welcome people managing demanding jobs, caring responsibilities, life changes and the accumulated pressure of everyday life. Your care starts with time to listen and understand.
How acupuncture may help with stress
What does anxiety research show?
A 2026 systematic review included 20 randomised trials and 1,462 participants. Manual acupuncture reduced anxiety scores after treatment compared with sham and usual-care or waiting-list groups. Results varied considerably between studies, so the average effect needs careful interpretation.
Why can stress affect your body?
Stress can cause muscle tension, headaches, stomach problems and disrupted sleep. The pattern matters: jaw clenching, waking with racing thoughts and bowel changes each need a specific assessment. New or persistent physical symptoms should be assessed on their own merits.
Is it stress, anxiety or poor sleep?
These often overlap, but the questions differ. We ask when symptoms occur, whether worry is persistent, what happens at night and how daily function is affected. Explore our separate pages on acupuncture for anxiety and acupuncture for sleep for the relevant evidence.
Acupuncture for anxiety: the evidence
A systematic review of randomised controlled trials reports improvements in anxiety symptoms with acupuncture. Differences between study size and treatment methods mean the findings need careful interpretation. We use research to inform treatment and review your individual response.
Stress and a diagnosed anxiety disorder are different, although symptoms can overlap. We ask about both and consider how acupuncture fits with any support you already receive.
