Integrated healthcare
Acupuncture for stress and anxiety in Sheffield
Stress can show up as a busy mind, tight shoulders, headaches, digestive changes or difficulty sleeping. We take time to understand your symptoms, their pattern and what else is happening in your life, so your treatment reflects you.
Acupuncture may help some people feel more relaxed and manage associated symptoms. Research into anxiety is encouraging, but studies vary in quality and treatment methods. It can complement appropriate psychological or medical care. We do not promise that it works better than medication or talking therapies.
How Acupuncture Helps
How can stress affect your body?
Stress can involve muscle tension, headaches, digestive symptoms and disrupted sleep. We ask when symptoms occur, what makes them worse and whether further assessment is needed. Physical symptoms should be considered individually, even when stress is also present.
What does anxiety research show?
Reviews of randomised trials report improvements in anxiety symptoms with acupuncture. The studies use symptom scores, different comparison treatments and varying treatment schedules. Our anxiety page explains the findings and the physical symptoms we assess.
What do sleep studies measure?
Sleep studies distinguish time taken to fall asleep, time awake overnight, total sleep time and daytime impact. Our sleep page explains what trials found and when further assessment is useful.
